What is a more vicious animal than the Tibetan mastiff? Is the secret passage to the holy land of Shangri-La under the Potala Palace? Why did the Soviet specialists organize a special group of experts to go into Tibet five times at the beginning of the new China? Why did Hitler order his best man, Himmler, to organize two expeditions to Tibet in 1938 and 1943? In 838 A.D., the last Zangpo of Tubo, Rangdama, ascended to the throne and immediately declared a ban on Buddhism. During that campaign, the monks buried a large number of classics and sacred relics beforehand, and then secretly moved them to a hidden place where they built a temple called the Pabbala Temple. As time went by and wars raged, the temple, which hid endless Buddhist treasures, disappeared into the dust of history and seemed to have been long forgotten by the people.
